Well Brooke and I have been watching the news on the current economic crisis over the last couple of weeks. Well the crisis just got even more personal, not only is our 401k not looking very good but our bank just went under. We have been banking at Washington Mutual (
WaMu) for about 6 years now. We have really liked
WaMu but
WaMu is no more. As of Sept 25
th WaMu is now
JPMorgan Chase. Our few
encounters with Chase bank have not been great and I'm pretty sure we are going to stick with them. It looks like we will be looking for a new bank in the next little while. Any suggestions?
Also if you haven't heard the This American Life episode
The Giant Pool of Money you should. It is an entire episode of This American Life that talks about how we got into this
financial mess. Also this weeks episode is also going to go into the events of the last couple of weeks in the
financial markets.

Hey you guys...What cute pictures of Dallin and of course Owen. Can't wait to meet him. Since you asked for some suggestions I just wanted to let you know what Jeff and I have done. For the first time in our 30 years of marriage I feel like we finally have a financial plan that will yield us with a great retirement. We have a lot of diversified investments from having lots of different jobs but none of them had much money in them. Anyway, we are refinancing our home (which was already a 15 year with 12 years remaining) but with this new program it will be paid off in 8.5 years. Also we are investing in term life with Primerica, a subsidiary of CitiBank. With the rule of 72's we will have several hundreds of thousands when we retire and we are actually saving more each month. Deanna and Chad also just took advantage of this program and they were able to get life insurance for the first time ever for Chad. No one would cover him because of his heart condition, etc. They were also able to start a very good retirement that they hadn't had before because he had owned his business. They actually told us about it and we feel really good about this financial plan, especially after not having much of one after 30 years of marriage. But I'm sure you guys are much smarter than we are. Anyway, you asked for suggestions so I'm giving you one. If you want anymore information, let me know and I'll see how I can help. Jeff actually is more knowledgable about it than am I. Anyway...hope you are all well. Take care and look forward to seeing you sometime soon. Love, Leanne
