Have You Given In To Vinyl?

It's the latest and greatest Mormon decorating craze. (Actually, it's not the latest. If you've been faithfully attending your ward's Super Saturdays, then you've probably seen your share of vinyl over the last five years.) It's everywhere! It's infiltrating our kitchens, our bathrooms, mailboxes, car windows, and it even found its way onto my bishop's office wall! How did this happen?! Did we over-wreath-a-tize our homes during the 1970s? Did we toll-paint one too many wooden animals at girl's camp? Or perhaps we failed to regulate our dosage of cross-stitchery during our keep-the-hands-busy years? Well whatever the case may be, it seems no Mormon home is complete without some small display of those stickery words. Move over needlepoint, it's time for any-man's vinyl!

As an English major, I find it so intriguing that people would use words and phrases to decorate their homes. It's almost like turning your walls into stone tablets etched with speech and language. Pardon the expression, but Moses would be proud. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase, "If these walls could talk."

However before I let my wit get ahead of me and find myself poking too much fun at the vinyl craze, I, sadly, have my own confession:

Hello, my name is Brooke Barton and I decorate with vinyl.
Yes, it is true. I have given in to vinyl. Surrendered really.
Below are just a few of the phrases I couldn't resist devouring:

With all boys in my house, I had to get this one. I'm pretty out-numbered.

Made this one all by myself. I like that I can change the photos when I get bored.

Hard to read, but the tiny saying says, "The Best Journey Always Takes Us Home", a phrase I've never seen before. So I had to buy it merely for its non-cliche-ness and originality.

Made this plate at Super Saturday. Not bad for only $9.00 and it's a two-for-the-price-of-one because you can eat on it. Double whammy. (And yes, those are Willow Tree people in the photo. Another Mormon must-have.)

My mom recently gave me this one. It's a quilter's thing. Get it? If you don't, too bad, I'm not going to explain it. Pretty cute though, huh?
