What's in a Name?

Ok, so a name shouldn't be a big deal, but whoever said that probably didn't have kids. I mean, come on, a name is the one arbitrary thing in your life that happens to you and follows you wherever you go. You have no say in it, your parents pick it out, and who really wants to go through all of the legal hassel to change it if it stinks anyway?

So, here we are.....at a crossroads, once again, trying to choose yet another great "boy" name for our next son. (Coming soon to a hospital near you.) It isn't easy. Boy names are way harder than girl names. Everyone I know has a vast mental storage of cute girl names, and very few boy names. Such is life (or at least such is the case for us.) We have long lists of girl names, and when it comes to boy names...."GAME OVER."

The bottom line............WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

Feel free to post your favorite boy names. No trendy names though. We don't like those. You know, the ones that sound like the name of cutsie scrapbook paper or Book of Mormon heroes? Yeah, we'd rather stay away from those. Good, old-fashioned, solid names are the ones we like. The kind that would make a great doctor, or attorney, or author, or austronaut someday. Yeah, those. We are open to bible names, past presidents, war heroes, characters from classic literature, and even dead grandparents. (Owen was named after his great grandfather, Owen Henry Barton.....there are some good roots there.) So please help us think of some meaningful names!!!

I feel the same way!!!! So I will be of no help but maybe your post can help me. :) Maybe you should name your new boy Hayden and we should name ours Owen. hahahaha

I do have a few names I like but can't use because they are already taken in the family:

Preston
Zachary or Zack
Gavin
Wesley
Dean
Ethan (really popular right now though)

Okay, here's a few for your review. I like a little edge to our boy names, but Brian keeps me more classic. :) So i'll try to keep these as solid as possible:

Collin
Tanner
Seth (love this one)
Dallin
Eli (love this one, too)
Travis
Caleb
Derek
Lance
Asher

OK, So i know that last one is more trendy but i love it and had to throw a little of my own style in the list :) Good Luck!!!

I'm with you on the boy names. Rob and I could not agree on what to name James. I was convinced we were gonna name him Gabe. We ended up naming him after his Great grandfather. If I had my choice I would probably choose names like Abraham(Abe) or Theodore(Teddy). I liked presidential names but everyone thinks I'm crazy. I don't know why. I think they are very strong sounding names. I'm not a fan of the trendy names either. Here are some names I like...

Sean
Jake
Joshua
Caleb
Ethan (Caleb and Ethan are very trendy right now)
Robert
Joseph
Austin
Thomas

I think if a boy name sounds like he could be a general authority it's a good name. Elder James R. Richardson. Very strong sounding.

All I have to say is: GOOD LUCK! I was so worried about a boy name before we found out we were having a girl...phew! You really do need a good solid name-who ever said boys were easier? Yikes!
I do like the names you've received so far, though.
